3 Carat Lab-Created Diamond Rings: A Price Guide
Every diamond is different from the next and possesses its own individual properties. When it comes to engagement rings, you deserve one that is as special as your love story. A 3 carat lab-grown diamond is an excellent choice for an engagement ring; it's unique, beautiful, and sparkling in every way with an impressive impact and dazzling appearance.
So how much is a 3 carat diamond? Even though a 3 carat diamond will cost significantly more than a 1 carat diamond, lab-grown 3 carat diamonds, like those carried at Michael Gabriels, are significantly more affordable than mined diamonds, and have fewer ethical concerns. Because lab-grown diamonds have the same physical, chemical and optical properties as mined diamonds, the same "Four C's" will determine how much a 3 carat lab diamond is worth.
The Four C’s - 3 Carat Diamond
Before we break down how much a 3 carat diamond ring is worth, we need to look at the 4C’s.
The 4 Cs: Cut, Clarity, Color and Carat; are the globally accepted standard for determining a diamond's beauty, and therefore, its retail worth. Diamonds are evaluated for the 4Cs and graded by gemological institutes, the most renowned of which are GIA, the Gemological Institute of America, and IGI, the International Gemological Institute. They issue a report for each diamond that they grade. Without a report from a reputable lab, you cannot be sure of the 4 Cs of your diamond.
At Michael Gabriels we send all of our diamonds to either GIA or IGI for an analysis, and when you choose a diamond from us, we will give you the grading report for that diamond.
Carat Weight
Carat, one of the more well-known of the "Four C's" of diamond purchasing, is the measurement used to express the weight of a diamond. According to GIA, one carat weighs approximately 200 milligrams (0.20 grams), about the weight of a paperclip.
Contrary to popular belief, a carat does not describe the size of a diamond. Only the weight of the diamond is indicated by the carat. For instance, the size of the diamond may vary depending on its shape, such as princess or oval.
More importantly, carat weight says nothing about the diamond’s spread: the size of the visible portion of the diamond when looking down at the top (its table and crown facets). Two diamonds of equal carat weight may carry it differently, affecting not only the optical characteristics such as its scintillation and brilliance, but also how much of the diamond is actually visible once it is set. For example, a diamond with a larger pavilion may weigh more than a diamond with a larger spread but will actually look smaller on your finger.
1. Clarity
Clarity is based on the types and number of blemishes and inclusions both inside and on the surface of the diamond. Inclusions and flaws that are easily visible and will result in lower prices.
To fully comprehend the significance of these marks, you should always examine the diamond by eye or with the aid of a jeweler's loupe. Even though a perfect diamond is extremely uncommon, some 3 carat diamonds will have the brilliance and shine you want.
2. Color
A diamond's color can have a significant impact on price. Diamonds of lower quality color will often have a yellow, brown (or sometimes gray) tint to them, and will have less brilliance and scintillation Given the large surface area of a 3 carat diamond, these yellow or brown tones will appear more noticeable than a diamond with a smaller surface area. If you're looking for a colorless 3 carat diamond, you should be looking at color grades from D to F.
3. Cut
Considered the most important of the 4C’s, Cut is based on how well the diamond was fashioned so that it optimizes the natural light properties inherent in the stone. The better the cut, the more brilliance and fire the diamond will have and the more expensive it will be.
Round brilliant cut diamonds are graded by IGI as Ideal, Excellent, Very Good, Good, and Fair. In order to provide its customers with diamonds of the highest caliber, Michael Gabriels carries Ideal and Excellent cut grades.
