Taylor Swift Makes History Three Times in Radically Radiant Crystal Ensemble
If Taylor Swift had stood up in the bathtub in the music video for “Look what you made me do,” the look that would have resulted would no doubt be similar to the wrapping of rhinestones she wore last night.
Was it deliberate? Who knows? Swift loves giving little spills and snippets to her fans to keep them on the edge of their seats. Last night was no different. In accepting her historic trio of awards at the VMA ceremony that she unexpectedly turned up to, she hinted at the release of her new album, teasing the global audience with a promise “I will tell you more at midnight.”
A deliberate turn of phrase, since, in keeping her promise it was revealed that the album is titled “Midnights,” and is inspired by several midnights that Swift has remembered in her life. Debuting October 21, this new album apparently draws on themes many of us associate with midnight- and no, it doesn't look like sleep is one of them.
And who knows how the dress may be connected? Though there is plenty of speculation. “Look what you made me do,” is now old enough that she can legally re-record it, something she has done with previous music. She wore a similar, sparkling, look to the VMA ceremony thirteen years ago, when Kanye West interrupted her acceptance speech. At least this interruption was peaceful.
Taylor Swift’s surprise appearance was highlighted by her unforeseeable ensemble. Her flapper-esque Oscar de la Renta dress of rhinestone strings wrapped around her like an enormous asymmetrically spun spiders web all folded up and covered in diamonds, glittering and sparkling in the red carpet spotlights; a carpet she walked in crystal-covered Christian Louboutin heels.
Her starry, pear shape diamond earrings by Lorraine Schwartz complimented the sparkling dress.
